Now that the black Friday sales are over, I thought I would share some of my shopping tips on how I manage to find good bargains and still have my sanity. FYI I managed to get my whole outfit excluding the shoes for a total of £3 by following these tips, as always outfit details will be listed below.
Rule number 1 : Don’t overthink
Just like everything you do in life, there’s no good in over thinking! So when I go shopping during sales period, I make sure once I see something I like, its a quick ‘this will look nice on me’ or ‘naah this isn’t it’ I try not to think too much into the item like ‘ooh will I wear this, what will I wear this with’ etc because the time spent on thinking about these things I could have missed out on a really cute top and we don’t want that.
Rule number 2 : Patience
Patience is a very important skill to have when it comes to shopping and if you’ve ever shopped at TKMaxx then you know how important having patience is. Everyone that knows me, knows how much I hate feeling rushed or being in a overcrowded place but somehow when it comes to shopping I don’t mind these two thing as much . Shopping on a normal day can be crazy so imagine shopping during sales where everyone is on a hunt for a good bargain, the last thing you want to do is rush and miss out on that faux fur coat you’ve had your eye on since the year started sooooo I say take your time girl and remember the same way Rome wasn’t built in a day might be the same way that jacket doesn’t want to be found on the first search. The good thing about the 21st century is you can shop without leaving your bed, with online shopping there’s never a real rush but you still need the patience to not give up after scrolling through your favourite websites and not finding that one item you’ve been wanting but learning that it’s still okay to search other sites like ebay, depop, aliexpress or amazon for that same pair of jeans.
Rule number 3 : Play nice
Coming from someone that’s worked in retail before, I know how easy it is to say ‘everything we have is on the shop floor’ even when it’s not the truth. Don’t let the stress of strangers brushing past you with their heavy bags be the reason you miss out on a good bargain, when I walk into shops I try to give a little smile or nod just because I know there’s a chance I’m going to end up needing their help and it could go two ways ; (a) they could actually go in the stock room and make my day by bringing the item or (b) not even bother search or look and just tell me its out stock even though there’s probably a thousand and one size 8’s laying around in the stockroom.
Rule number 4 : don’t be afraid to look back
Don’t let the thoughts of being judged by the security guard or sales assistant for coming back into the store after just spending half an hour in there before stop you from going back into your favourite shop and getting those cute pair of boots! when in doubt just imagine how jealous your friends will be when you turn up in a pair of cool boots that could have cost you £50 but you got them from £15 because decided to go back.
Rule number 5 : Shop wisely
Although we all love a good sale, it’s important to learn when to splurge and when to keep the purse away. One way I stop myself from going on an unnecessary shopping spree is by constantly asking myself ‘will you buy this if it was full priced’ and it works all the time.
